The annual metrology demonstration and open day, organized through the collaboration of EUMETROLOGY Kft. and TEKT Kft. (hereinafter: Main Organizers), has now become almost a tradition. The event was hosted at the Budapest headquarters of the Main Organizers, home to Hungary’s first and only accredited metrology testing laboratory. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the world of high-end 3D surface scanning, featuring the world premiere of the next-generation HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 3D structured light scanner.
Originally planned as a three-day event, the Main Organizers had to extend it by an additional day due to high demand. Even so, some participants were placed on a waiting list, but the organizers ensured they had alternative opportunities to get acquainted with the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 based on their specific needs.
Guests were welcomed between 8:00 and 9:00 AM in our training room, where refreshments, snacks, and hot coffee set a pleasant tone for the day. Our enthusiastic engineering team was eager to begin, and even before the first presentations started, discussions had already begun on professional issues in small groups. After a brief registration, participants moved to the accredited metrology testing laboratory, where they received a welcome gift package.
One of the most exciting and highly anticipated precision length measurement event of the year was opened by Zsolt Tancsa, co-founder and owner of EUMETROLOGY Kft. Following the official opening, sales representatives Andor Haraszti and Bence Szalai continued the program with an overview of EUMETROLOGY, TEKT, and MIELL Group, their services, and length measurement-related products.
After a coffee break, Tamás Ling, Head of Engineering, co-founder, and owner, gave a detailed presentation on 3D scanning and photogrammetry measurement methods, introducing the event’s highlight: the new generation of 3D scanners, the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 structured light scanner. Metrology engineer, Bálint Fonyó followed with a live demonstration of the HEXAGON StereoScan Neo, providing a comprehensive insight into 3D scanning and the projection of the resulting color map onto the workpiece surface.
During a short break, we answered questions raised during the presentations and moved some particularly interesting topics to the afternoon session for an in-depth discussion with practical demonstrations. Following the morning agenda, engineer Márton Emri presented industrial case studies showcasing the various applications of 3D scanners. Additionally, guest speaker Zsolt Kovács from graphIT Kft. explained the role of 3D scanning in design, digital manufacturing, and quality assurance processes.
The highlight of the metrology demonstration and open day was the live presentation by our engineer Kristóf Bognár, showcasing the groundbreaking features of the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 structured light 3D scanner:
A world-first innovation exclusive to the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800: this is the first and currently the only device in the world that can cover six different fields of view without requiring mechanical adjustments or recalibration when switching between them. Kristóf demonstrated that users can change the field of view with a single click within the software and even switch seamlessly within the same scanning project. Attendees witnessed how this technology allows for capturing a complete overview with a large field of view and then zooming in for highly detailed, precise scans of critical areas. At present, only the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 possesses this capability. Learn more about the VR800: https://www.eumetrology.hu/hexagon-smartscan-vr800.
Following the presentations, Zsolt Tancsa introduced the Main Organizers’ Equipment Trade-In Program for those looking to acquire a new HEXAGON 3D scanner at a discounted price in 2024. The program allows customers to trade in their existing equipment, regardless of brand. More details:

The morning demonstrations concluded with a pleasant group lunch. To enhance the dining experience, we treated our guests to an excellent Food Truck lunch.
After lunch, attendees had the opportunity to engage in informal discussions on length measurement topics with our experts. Participants could also test among other scanners the cutting-edge HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 3D surface scanner. Some companies even brought their own workpieces and past measurement challenges, which our engineers analyzed in the accredited laboratory using the next-generation HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 surface scanner.
The primary focus of the event, including the afternoon session, was showcasing the efficiency-enhancing technological innovations of the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800. This included its ability to integrate multiple resolutions and fields of view within a single device, featuring four 20MP resolution cameras and an optical zoom projector. These components enable rapid field-of-view switching between 800 mm and 160 mm in six steps with various resolutions. No mechanical adjustments, warm-up times, or recalibrations are required—field of view and resolution can be changed with a single click in just three seconds.
Significant progress has been made, including in design. In 2024, the product won the RED DOT AWARD, and further developments of the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 are also noteworthy. Its thermal stability is unprecedented, it is fully prepared for automation, and the product's housing features a completely sealed design. Furthermore, global support is available, including in Hungary, provided by the Main Organizers.
Participants were able to see the latest developments of the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800, as well as the technological advantages mentioned above, during the metrology demonstration and open day. After each scan, participants could individually review the results. At the end of the day, based on feedback from our partners, we can say that we concluded a successful and effective event series. Overall, it can be stated that the combination of the unique technological innovations of the HEXAGON SmartScan VR800 ensures efficient and cost-effective scanning and measurements for users.
